Oriflamme
Red flowed the flag from the golden lance.
Red flowed the blood in the reaper’s dance.
Red flowed the mud from the horse’s prance.
The harvest will be rich next year.
Long was the flag blowing in the wind.
Long was the weeping even after they thinned.
Long was the face of the most thick skinned.
The harvest will be rich next year.
Brazen was the king that ordered it flown.
Brazen was his foe that took it for his own.
Brazen was the usurper that then took the throne.
The harvest will be rich next year.

- The Oriflamme (from Latin aurea flamma, “golden flame”) was the battle standard of the King of France in the Middle Ages. It was originally the sacred banner of the Abbey of St. Denis, a monastery near Paris.
- When the Oriflamme was displayed on the battlefield it indicated that no quarter was to be given, its red colour being symbolic of cruelty and ferocity.
